A collection of badges adorn the cover designs, paying homage to SVFD firefighters, present and past.
A limited edition cover was designed using a red, white, and blue theme. 8 gold badges represent the chiefs that have served since 1923.
The end pages are fire engine red, framing the content as readers flip through the book's pages.
A letter from the current chief serves as a fitting prologue for the book.

Chapter headings are set in State Street and stylized to mimic the typography one might find on a fire engine door.
The layout of the book is simple, to provide a straightforward, efficient feel.
A timeline that paints out the department's inventory of trucks and other apparatus over time is featured prominently towards the end of the book.
